LIVESTOCK INSTITUTE OF TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT (LITD) is a premier Non-Government Organization, playing a vital role in the national efforts of developing India through veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry  transformation.

The Centre’s mandate is to work on emerging models of collectives and contemporary challenges of the Livestock  sector  through research, consultancy, extension, outreach and policy analysis.

LIVESTOCK INSTITUTE OF TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT (LITD) is an effort to set Animal Husbandry  at the core of India’s mind sets and collective national thinking.

LIVESTOCK INSTITUTE OF TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT (LITD) is a national level platform in India with a mandate for policy research, advocacy and enterprise development in Livestock sector. Besides, (LITD)  is engaged in business and trade facilitation, farm services and providing a platform for global partnerships. It emerged out of the long felt need for a comprehensive approach to address issues in Livestock sector and tapping of emerging global business opportunities overcoming compartmentalized approach and absence of coordination and dialogue among various stake-holders. Currently in India, various stakeholders in the Livestock sector like the national and state governments, policy makers, research and academic bodies, extension agencies, value addition industry, NGOs, financial bodies, developmental institutions and farmers groups think in silos, often with contradictory approaches for the same ultimate cause. LITD  aims to foster convergence and greater communication between different stakeholders and work towards bringing India aggressively into the loop of global trade and commerce. LITD has drawn in the vast experience and expertise of a number of professionals cutting across various subsectors in the Livestock sector and has constituted a number of working groups and national councils to represent the interests of various stakeholders. It has also incorporated several state specific working groups. Welfare of the Indian Livestock farmer in terms of making Livestock farming remunerative, optimizing farmer incomes, strengthening farmers connect to easy credit, technology, trade, market and industry including through policy advocacy on all farm related issues constitute one of the core concerns of LITD. The redressal of perpetual agrarian distress would require proactive, progressive, democratic and peaceful mobilization of Livestock  farmers for assertion of their genuine concerns and issues to all the concerned.

LITD is committed towards reaching out to all parts of the rural society, especially the Livestock farming community. LITD also participates actively towards improving the quality of life of rural masses by addressing technical, economic policy issues related to the development of animal husbandry  and rural society.

LITD  is engaged in a variety of activities in Veterinary Science research , Animal husbandry and rural development with maintaining a national presence. The organization focuses on information dissemination, training, capacity-building and technology exposure by organizing Livestock business seminars, technical conferences, farmers’ workshops, Livestock  trade fairs, conducting surveys & studies, and adopting villages for their sustainable development. LITD monitors trends in Animal Husbandry  and agribusinesses and advises Central and State Governments, NGOs and various bodies on appropriate policies and actions for the development of animal husbandry , agriculture and rural economy.

LITD has strong links with the Livestock farming and business communities, as well as policy makers & assure to become a  voice  to Livestock concerns before appropriate platform. LITD has to play  a pioneering role in popularizing the concept of PPP, Government initiative on mass media support to animal husbandry, lowering of interest rates by organizing Parliamentarians conferences and working towards greater investments in animal husbandry  sector. There has also been a long association of LITD with farmers throughout the country and with agencies and organizations involved with rural development.

LITD envisions a world where all people have access to enough food and livelihood options to fulfil their potential.

LITD’s mission is to improve food and nutritional security and to reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock—ensuring better lives through livestock.

Objectives of LITD:

  • promote sustainable animal husbandry,
  • recognize and promote excellence of individual scientists in the field of veterinary science,
  • promote interaction among Veterinary research workers in different institutions and organizations within the country and with the world Veterinary scientific community,
  • organize inter-disciplinary analysis of issues of importance to farmers and farming, and prepare further policies designed to advance veterinary research, education and development
  • carry out such activities as are relevant to the accomplishment of the above goals.

Provide exposure to Livestock farmers about the latest agrovet-input products, technologies, farming practices, government schemes, marketing and post harvest management.

Provide better awareness among the key stakeholders, industries and investors about the animal husbandry  potential of the state, business opportunities available and the scope for investment.

Provide platform to the national and international organizations in food, agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture, agribusiness and rural development for linkages and partnerships.

Provide a unique opportunity to reach out to over 50,000 progressive Livestock  farmers from the State and other key stake-holders in food and animal husbandry system in the country.

Provide valuable opportunity for interaction with the top Government of India and the State government officials and policy makers to discuss issues and explore business opportunities in the State.

Provide inputs for formulating appropriate farm and agrovet industrial policy for enhancing competitiveness, increasing productivity, improving post-harvest management, processing and infrastructure and agrovet exports.

 With partners, to develop, test, adapt and promote science-based practices that—being sustainable and scalable—achieve better lives through livestock.

With partners, to provide compelling scientific evidence in ways that persuade decision makers—from farms to boardrooms and parliaments—that smarter policies and bigger livestock investments can deliver significant socio-economic, health and environmental dividends to both poor nations and households.

With partners, to increase capacity among LITD’s key stakeholders to make better use of livestock science and investments for better lives through livestock.

Our Strategy

To contribute to the advancement of veterinary science & animal husbandry  in India by improving scientific human power.
It  involves:

  • Providing scholarships to meritorious students of the Veterinary and Animal Sciences .
  • Supporting the participation of graduate students and young faculty in national and international conferences.
  • Inviting eminent scholars to deliver motivational lectures to the students and faculty of veterinary science.
  • Giving awards to the veterinarians, Scientists who transfer technology to the farming communities.

Our main goals are

  • To alleviate farmer poverty by providing access to knowledge gaps and technical innovations for abundant livestock production and increased income through opening market access.
  • To expand and diversify rural livelihood opportunities through facilitating impactful vocational training for forward facing employment areas including placements for an accelerated start.
  • To ensure that communities remain resilient through proper provision and maintenance of natural resources to support agrovet and community living conditions.
